Two year course

Second Level Visual Cultures and curating practices course

The Course fosters the first specialization in Italy aimed at exploring visual cultures through an analytical grid made up of critical theory, philosophy and cultural studies. In the special setting of Brera, in contact with the artists and  based on a solid track record in theoretical know-how, the training of the critic, the manager of cultural events and the curator takes place. Every year a special funded didactic project takes places, involving all the School’s students and names from the art world, aimed at creating an exhibition curated by a selected group of students.

Admission is automatic for those graduates with the First level Academic Diploma in Communication and Art Didactics, including those from other accademia within the AFAM system.
A motivational interview is required for those First Level Academic Diploma graduates from other Schools and for those graduates from other University faculties. The aim is to ensure an appropriate level of knowledge and conditional advancement based on retaking failed exams.

Second Level Creative Communication for Cultural Heritage course

The Course has a single curriculum and aims to provide highly specialized training to those professionals who will go on to carry out valorization activities within or in collaboration with public or private institutions.

For this reason, the Course is designed to provide students with a range of skills in the different communication sectors, from traditional areas to the new media, enabling them to develop the necessary professional skills to carry out valorization cultural heritage activities. Particular importance is given to exhibition projects considering museums  and exhibitions as the main communication tools of cultural heritage.

The training activities are carried out in the form of lectures, tutorial groups, workshops, seminars and courses which are held in collaboration with museums such as the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, which participates with its entire staff and external designers.
Particular importance is given to internships, which offer the student an outstanding opportunity to complete their training with a real and practical contact with the world of work. The Accademia has long established relations with museums, institutions, galleries and companied operating in Italy in the field of Cultural Heritage.

Graduates with a First Level Academic Diploma in the Valorization of Cultural Heritage disciplines have automatic admission to the Course.  Graduates from the three year desgree courses L-1, L-3, L-5, L-10, L-17 and L-19, L-20, L-21, L-42 are required to undertake an aptitude interview. Information relating to deadlines for the submission of applications, the planning of interviews and enrollment is available on the Accademia website.

Future Employment Prospects

The cultural training obtained during the two year course will allow the graduate to carry out a range of different professional roles and activities: a creative professional in the planning, design and coordination of museum communication programmes, in the creation of exhibitions, as well as in the planning and creation of cultural trails in archaeological sites, natural and “literary” parks, in the planning of itineraries and initiatives for cultural tourism, in the creation of campaigns and promotions, in the organization of complex events such as festivals and fairs , in the research, development and creation of specific initiatives and institutional communication activities of cultural heritage organizations. Moreover, the graduate will have a 360° vision of cultural heritage and be able to plan, coordinate and if need be, carry out activities such as photographic documentation and report campaigns.

Second Level Photography course

The Two year specialization course in photography aims to train an artist-cum-photographer with conceptual, historical and visual expertise in order to foster innovative creative projects. Consolidated photographic techniques will also characterize a professional who, on the basis of their research or work perspectives, knows how to design and create projects in the commercial, documentary and communication fields with a flair for social dynamics.

Admission requires a first level Academic Diploma or corresponding Degree or other recognized qualification obtained abroad. For foreign students a certificate in Italian is required.
An interview is also called for in order to verify aptitudes, motivations and potential training and educational paths with the presentation by the candidate of his/her portfolio showcasing works and projects and ranges of photographic techniques, together with any other additional information.

Second Level MA of Net Art specialization course

The two year specialization Master courses in Art and New Technologies are put forward as in-depth study programmes following on from the First Level three year course.  The Courses offer specialized training and education for artistic multi media operators in the following areas:

  • cinema and video, with particular reference to research and artistic innovation and experimentation
  • arts on the web, in the different areas of programming and animation with particular reference to the area of technological installations, actions and interactive scenes.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of the second level training is the orientation towards production, developing interdisciplinary planning and design, programming and creation phases, relating to the most relevant professional artistic activities of the pertaining field of research and experimentation.

The aim of the Course is to prepare specialists in the artistic design of clothing, able to create collections with a strong creative flair, endorsing manual skills as well as artisan and industrial techniques in an expressive and innovative way. The course prepares a highly specialized yet adaptable professional profile able to take on a number of different positions in different areas; from a freelance professional in fashion houses, within a diversified production system that ranges from artisan businesses to small and medium sized companies through to large corporations.

Second Level Puppet Theatre specialization course

The courses are aimed at developing the specialized skills necessary for the planning and design of the different form of performance, together with theoretical and critical study, laboratory activities, workshops and internships involving highly qualified professionals and structures operating at a national and international level. The harmonious interdeisciplinarity and collaboration between courses form the basis of a consolidated educactional model that fosters direct participation in practical and laboratory training sessions, aimed at creating and staging theatrical, operatic and dance performances, television productions and films. For this purpose collaborations and participation in staging projects and their production are planned on an annual basis.
The School of Scenic Design has traditionally forged strong collaborative relations with the most important Italian Opera Organizations, the most qualified Television and Film Production Companies with renowned Laboratories for the creation of set design and costumes, as well as with prestigious internationally famous artists.
